The Navigate tab of the 3D panel contains functionalities used to control the position and the direction of the camera (point of view) and the directional light source (“sun”).

The 3D panel Navigate tab has four work modes which can be switched by clicking the icon between the arrow buttons. Each mode changes the actions associated with the arrow buttons and the Vertical, Horizontal and Distance settings:

Icon Name Description
Rotate Scene arrow buttons rotate the map around the Origin Pointer; equivalent of Rotate Scene mode using a computer mouse.
Drag arrow buttons move the Origin Pointer on the XY plane (longitude and latitude); equivalent of Drag mode using a computer mouse.
Rotate Cameraarrow buttons rotate the camera (point of view) as if hand-held; equivalent of Rotate Camera mode using a computer mouse.
Sun Position arrow buttons rotate the directional light around the Origin Pointer; equivalent of Sun Position mode using a computer mouse

The Vertical, Horizontal and Distance settings allow to manually set the position of the camera or the “sun” (depending on the current Navigate tab mode) in spherical coordinates. The [ + ] and [ - ] buttons allow to change the distance of the camera from the Origin Pointer:

  • if clicked, the distance changes by a default value,
  • if pressed and held, the distance changes smoothly accelerating in the chosen direction.

The Reference point settings allow to set how the Origin Pointer should be positioned along the Z axis (altitude) relatively to the open layers:

  • base -  if there is at least one digital elevation model (DEM) among the open layers then the lowest value of the Z coordinate found in the DEM,
  • zero - zero value regardless of the Z coordinate values found in the open layers,
  • lowest - lowest value of the Z coordinate within all open layers,
  • highest - highest value of the Z coordinate within all open layers,
  • on DEM - if there is at least one digital elevation model (DEM) among the open layers then the value of Z coordinate read from the DEM at the longitude and latitude of the Origin Pointer; does not update if the longitude or latitude of the Origin Pointer changes,
  • fly on DEM - as in the on DEM case but updates if the longitude or latitude of the Origin Pointer changes.

The numeric value is an offset (in meters) that is added to the relative positions described above.
