Clicking on the File/Scale units menu item provides the means for setting the distance units used by the Scale.

To set the distance units displayed on the Scale

1. Click on the File/Scale units menu item - this invokes the Scale units dialog box.
2. Within the Scale units dialog box select the desired unit from the list.
3. [OPTIONAL] If the selected scale units should become default for any newly created mapping project then check the Set as application default checkbox.
4. Click on the OK button.
